LIEUTENANT GENERAL MANOJ KUMAR UNNI, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, PHS DIRECTOR GENERAL ARMED FORCES MEDICAL SERVICES
Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar UNNI was commissioned into the Indian Army in February 1977. As a graduate from the Armed Forces Medical College Pune with a Masters degree in Surgery and M.Ch in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, the general officer has trained at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia for two years. He is a qualified paratrooper, having served with the Special Forces as a Regimental Medical Officer. During his four decades of commissioned service, the general officer has held key professional and administrative appointments. He was Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Armed Forces Medical College Pune and has been a pioneer in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and beating heart coronary surgery in the Indian Armed Forces. Lieutenant General UNNI has commanded a frontline Military Hospital and the flagship tertiary care hospital of the Army Medical Corps, the Army Hospital Research and Referral New Delhi. He has headed the combat medical services of the Northern Command of the Indian Army and has been Director General Medical Services of the Army prior to assuming the apex appointment of Director General Armed Forces Medial Services on 01 July 2016. The general officer is a recipient of several awards for his professional excellence, administrative acumen and dedication to duty.
